Part of the reason I decided to launch this blog now, instead of waiting until I was already globally mobile, is that I recently (yeah, I’ve been living under a rock) came across the world of monetized blogging and thought, hey what the hell, maybe this blog itself can help generate some of the income I need to go completely mobile. It’s worth a shot, and I was planning on launching it anyway once I had started traveling. Besides, I’m sure there are other nomadic types out there who might find it useful to learn from my mistakes and successes along the way. And maybe people out there who are already doing it can give me some pointers.
Ok, so one of the websites that really inspired me to launch this now was the Blogging Experiment. This guy is doing a year long experiment where he tries to turn a startup blog into a full time income (his goal is $60,000/year, or $5,000/month). He started on July 4, 2007 so he’s been going for about 5 months now, and his November income report stated an income of $556.50, a little down from his October income of $595. While it’s not $1500/month, it’s a third. It’s more than enough for a month’s worth of hostel lodging or an apartment in Buenos Aires. This is inspiring, and he’s still got 7 months to go. I’ve thought from the beginning that I would probably utilize several income streams, so it’s no big deal if any particular one doesn’t make enough to cover all my expenses. Anyway, check out his blog if you’re interested in monetizing your blog, or just want to watch his progress. I added it to my blogroll too.
